Mainspring grew out of a straightforward observation: most watches that stop working or run erratically are not beyond help — they just need the right attention. The workshop in Nong Prue, Bang Lamung, opened with the intention of being the kind of place that explains its work clearly and returns watches in better shape than they arrived.
The Chonburi area has a mix of long-term residents, expats, and visitors, many of whom travel with watches they care about. Some have quartz pieces that keep stopping. Others have grandfather's automatic that hasn't been serviced in years. Others have a dress watch they bought abroad that needs the bracelet adjusted or the gaskets refreshed before the next rainy season. Each situation calls for a specific answer, not a general one.
The three services at Mainspring — Care Basics, Mechanical Overhaul, and Rebuild & Refinish — were set up to match those distinct needs. Pricing is listed openly. Scope is agreed before work begins. That approach keeps things straightforward for everyone involved.

You receive a written scope of work with the cost before we begin. There are no verbal-only agreements at Mainspring.
No Unnecessary Upselling
If the watch needs Care Basics, we recommend Care Basics. A Mechanical Overhaul is only suggested when the movement genuinely warrants it.
Documentation as Standard
Mechanical overhauls come with a printed timing log. Rebuild & Refinish jobs include a condition report before and after.
Direct Contact with the Bench
There is no front-office layer between you and the person servicing your watch. Questions go directly to the workbench.

Intake Documentation
Every watch is logged on arrival with condition notes and a reference photograph. This record travels with the job through the workshop.
Correct Lubricants
Different movement families require different lubricant viscosities. We match the oil to the component — no universal substitutes.
Timing Machine Testing
All mechanical overhauls are run on a timing machine post-service. Rate, amplitude, and beat error are measured across multiple positions.
Water Resistance Checks
Where the original case is rated for water resistance, gasket replacement and pressure testing are part of the overhaul scope.
Verified Parts Sourcing
Replacement parts are sourced through established supply channels. Brand, reference number, and provenance are confirmed before fitting.
Secure Custody
Watches under service are stored in locked, individually labelled trays. They are not pooled with other items or left unsupervised.
Watch Repair in the Chonburi Area
Chonburi province — and Bang Lamung in particular — draws residents and visitors from across Thailand and internationally. A well-worn watch is one of the more common things that needs attention during or after travel: gaskets degrade, batteries drain at inconvenient times, and mechanical calibres that sit unworn for long periods often need oiling and regulation before they keep acceptable time again.
Mainspring addresses those specific situations. The workshop offers three distinct tiers covering quartz watches needing routine work, mechanical movements requiring a full overhaul, and pieces where the case and bracelet also need attention alongside the movement. Each tier has a fixed price in Thai Baht, and each job starts with a written scope so the customer knows what is being done and why.
Movement servicing requires knowledge of calibre-specific tolerances, lubrication schedules, and adjustment procedures. The same general approach does not apply equally to a modern Swiss lever escapement and a vintage Japanese cylinder escapement. Mainspring maintains reference materials and calibre-specific tooling to approach each movement on its own terms.
Case refinishing — the cosmetic element of the Rebuild & Refinish service — involves assessing the original surface finish (brushed, polished, or mixed) and restoring it without removing more metal than necessary. Over-polished watches lose their definition; the aim at Mainspring is to restore, not to erase.
Customers with multiple watches, or those managing estate pieces, are welcome to discuss their needs in advance. Walk-in assessments during working hours are possible, though a prior phone call on more complex pieces gives the team time to set up appropriately.
